3 Easy Ways to Disable Gutenberg

Gutenberg is the newest WordPress editor as a replacement for WYSIWYG or classic editor that WordPress uses for years. The concept of Gutenberg is a page builder editor which gives us the freedom to create various post layouts.

For example, in the old editor, we need a 3rd party plugin to create a two columns layout in our post, but with Gutenberg you can create it super easy with just a couple of clicks. And the best part is, you can do a drag-n-drop this section (known as block) to the editor.

But, if you are not ready for it, then you may get some trouble to adapting with Gutenberg.

3. How To Disable Gutenberg Using Code #

Last but not least, if you don't want to install more plugins to your WordPress website, you can add 1 line of code to your active theme's functions.php file. However, it is safer if you use a child theme.

Please add the code below

add_filter('use_block_editor_for_post', '__return_false', 10);

Conclusion #

In my opinion, Gutenberg is a very comfortable editor for writing. There is no distraction here and there, just focus on the editor. Other than that, several block features really help me to create attractive content, such as a gallery, columns, etc.

Also, I would like to remind you that you also need to use a theme that supports Gutenberg, so you can use every Gutenberg feature. You can check and read the theme description before you download or purchase it.

One more reminder is, disable Gutenberg is only a temporary solution. Because there is a chance, the classic editor will be removed permanently in the future. So, I'd suggest you start learning, adapting to Gutenberg as soon as possible.
